4th Of July Nails Four Ways

With the 4th of July coming up on Wednedsay I was feeling a bit patriotic and wanted to show some love on my nails. I went ahead and came up with four different manicures that you can easily do at home, yourself for a great way to celebrate! I've included two tutorials with this post. One for a "water color" nail and another for a "water marble" nail (which a lot of you have been asking for). I had so much fun coming up with these manicures and I hope you get a chance to try one!

WATER COLOR NAILS

**This manicure has been taking Pinterest by storm and I figured what better way to try it out while rocking some red, white and blue.

How To: Water Color Nails

  • Step One: Choose your colors. (Sally Hansen's *Pacific Blue* Julep *January* and NYC *Starry Silver Glitter*
  • Step Two: Paint a base coat, for this I chose two coats of Sally Hansen's *White Out*
  • Step Three: Drip all of the colors onto the nail.
  • Step Four: Take a Ziploc sandwich and place it over the nail and press down to move the colors around.
  • Step Five: Take a q-tip and clean around the nail.

I finished this manicure with a coat of Julep Top Coat.

WATER MARBLE NAILS

**This is a manicure that I keep getting asked for tutorials on, so I tried my best to make it simple. The biggest issue you're going to have is finding colors that spread well in the water, I was lucky enough that the red, white and blue did. But sometime you need to play around with different colors.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED...
  • A small bowl or cup, the smaller the better filled with ROOM TEMPERATURE water. (This is very important, if the water is to cold or to hot the colors will not spread)
  • Scotch Tape (Some people use vaseline, but that's to messy for me.
  • Anywhere from 3-10 different color polishes
  • A white or neutral polish for a base, I find that white really is the best color.
HOW TO...
  • Step One: Paint one coat of your base color and take three pieces of scotch tape and tape off around the nail so when you dip your nails you're not getting color everywhere. (YES, I learned that the hard way)
  • Step Two: Make sure all of your polishes are open because you'll want to drip them as quick as possible so the polish doesn't dry up. Drip each color and continue this for as many colors as you have on repeat. Above I have a total of 9 drips but you can totally do more. Play with it, see what works for you.
  • Step Three:  Take a toothpick or a bobby pin or a dotting tool and draw your design in the polish. Again completely up to you. I just go crazy each time, so every nail is different.
  • Step Four: Dip one fingertip into the polish and use your tool to collect the polish around the nail before bringing your finger out of the water (about 15 seconds).
  • Step Five: Pull off the scotch tape and clean up any polish that got on your fingers with a qtip and some nail polish remover.
I finished this manicure off with a Seche Vite top coat. If you look at the pinky nail, you will see the results of "double dipping"

If you're more of a visual person, there are seriously thousands of You Tube videos on this topic, which is actually where I learned to do it after watching about 20 so take to the web and definitely tweet me pictures if you recreate this manicure.

I didn't include tutorials for these next two manicures because the first one is pretty self explanatory and the polka dot manicure I have a tutorial for HERE

For the first manicure I took the red white and blue and painted a strip on each nail, I did this free hand because I don't have enough patience to play with the tape and I'm not really worried about *perfect* lines, I like the rough edges. I did two coats of each color and then topped with a glitter.

For the polka dot manicure I took the same colors and had a bit of fun, I'm loving the glitter accent nail and this is probably the manicure that I will rock for the 4th!!

Colors Used for both of these manicures: Blue = Julep *Taylor* , White = Julep *Kate*, Red = Julep *January* and the glitter is Julep *America*.

QUICK NOTE: I realized when doing all of these manicures and running out of my Pacific Blue, that Julep's *Taylor* is almost an EXACT dupe for it. Which I love!!

I hope you liked my version of 4th of July nails!!
