MAC Hey Sailor! "Salute"

{Salute}

I wanted to share my new favorite lipstick with you all. MAC came out with their Hey Sailor collection on May 24th and I couldn't get to my counter quick enough because I have been eyeing this lipstick since the collection was leaked in early April. They usually sell out of their limited edition collections rather quickly, so I needed to make sure I could get my hands on it.  Even as I am writing this post, it looks like this awesome color is sold out on the MAC website but I know my counter has a few left, so definitely worth a look if you're interested.

This is a pale peach-beige color with a very creamy finish. It definitely has some yellow in it so it doesn't compare to many other peach lipsticks. It's very sheer so I had to apply it twice to my lips and the only con I can see is that it picks up every imperfection on your lips so it's a tad hard to apply. I managed to work out the kinks though, and fell in love with it like I knew I would.

The only issue I foresee is wearing this color sans my spray tan, I don't think it is going to go well with my fair skin so it may be a summer only lipstick because it looks gorgeous against tan skin and is a nice piece to add to my collection.

This lipstick comes with a steep $15.50 price tag but I will say, MAC is one of the only brands I actually splurge on because I love them! Plus, I still have a gift card from Christmas that I'm working on :)

What do you think? Love it? Hate it?

Have you picked up anything from the Hey Sailor collection? I have a couple more things that I'll be reviewing for you soon from the collection.

It's my new mission in life to show women that beauty can absolutely be done at an affordable budget friendly price!

NOTD: Summer Fun

It's time for a nail of the day! I was getting bored, this happens a lot (probably a main reason in why my hair has been 50 colors and I change my nail polish daily) so I decided to try something new in the color blocking realm and I love what I came up with. This is definitely a bright summer manicure that I will most likely re-do a few times this summer!! I actually didn't care for it at first, but it's growing on me and has been on my nails for two whole days, that's a record! So here it is :)

REVIEW: Sonia Kashuk - Blending Sponge

I was very skeptical to try this product, mainly because unlike most people I couldn't get on  the Beauty Blender bandwagon. I felt like the Beauty Blender left my makeup looking smeared because of the amount of water it absorbed. I KNOW I am in the minority there :)  I came across this sponge at Target and I figured since it was only $10 and shaped differently and from a brand that I trust I would go ahead and give it a try. I am so glad that I did.

I have been using this daily to apply my foundation, concealer, bronzer (powder) and blush (cream and powder) every day for about two weeks now. It works wonderfully. I dampen the sponge and unlike the beauty blender it doesn't grow all that much in size. I apply my foundation with the pointed end of sponge in a stippling motion all over my face. I apply my concealer directly to my face with my Maybelline roller and use the same side of the sponge blend that out around my under eye area. I dip the rounded (larger) end into my bronzer and apply that to my face in the same stippling motion and then do the same for my blush. I don't rinse it between each product and I have had no problems at all especially after applying the bronzer directly followed by the blush with the products mixing.

I found that this leaves my skin looking flawless and leaves me with a smooth almost airbrush effect finish and nothing looks like it is "caked" on. I don't know if this sponge has anything to do with it but I used this to apply my makeup yesterday in 90 degree weather with high humidity and I spent the whole day outside and I felt like my makeup lasted longer than it normally would after eight hours nothing had moved.

There are definitely a few cons as with any product. It absorbs a lot of product so I try not to use a lot and just add as I go. It is never going to look completely clean again, the products stain it and even after multiple cleanings they stay there but that doesn't effect the next application. I only know about this from reading reviews on the product but it looks like eventually it starts to fall apart but I haven't experienced that yet.

I would say that this definitely isn't the "best" out there but for anyone looking to get a good blending sponge for a reasonable price I would definitely go this route.

What do you think? Have you tried this? Love it? Hate it?

What A Deal: Jewelry Edition

If cheap and cute had a fan club, I'd be the president. I love finding cute little jewelry pieces and I especially love when they're under $5.00! I wanted to share three things with you all that I have picked up recently that I am absolutely loving!!

These cute earrings I found at Big Lots when I was on my hunt for the Phlosophy Makeup Deal. I'm a lover of big earrings and animal print so these my little Jersey Girl heart beat right out of my chest. I just had to pick them up! The unbelievable part was they were only $3.00!

This LOVE bracelet is super cute, it's a bright neon braided stretchy bracelet with this silver love plate. I fell in the love the moment I saw it and had to add it to my Arm Candy collection. This was super cheap and on sale at Claire's for $2.50.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this gorgeous orange flower ring from Claire's. It's perfect for summer for just the right pop of color and was only $5.00.

NOTD: Memorial Day Edition

It's time for another nail of the day. Bare with me, this one's a little messy as it was my first time playing around with striping and I think the white polish I used was a little to thick but it still turned out alright and I loved it for a patriotic look for the holiday.

Colors Used: Wet N Wild Megalast "I Red A Good Book" - Sally Hansen "Pacific Blue" - Sally Hansen "White Out" - NYC "Starry Silver Glitter"

Tuesday's Treats - DIY: Hair Masks

I have an awesome DIY for you ladies today! If there is one thing I hate, it's spending money on things I can do myself at home. In the world of hair masks, I hate to spend money on a bottle or jar of one particular product because I don't like my hair to get "used" to any one product for an extended period of time because I feel like it loses it's purpose. So I researched a lot over the years and have found so many different "at-home" hair masks. That way, you just whip it up and use it once and the next time you can try something new with products that you have at your house instead of spending an obscene amount of money on something that may or may not even work for your hair. Today I am going to share three of my FAVORITE masks that I rotate throughout the month.

Dry and Damaged Hair Mask

Untitled #2
This mask is great for anyone with dry and damaged hair. It's instantly moisturizing. The measurements for this mask are based on someone with shoulder length hair so for longer hair I would double the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon White Vinegar
  • 1 Egg
DIRECTIONS
  • Mix well
  • Apply generously to dry hair
  • Let sit for 15-20 minutes
  • Shampoo & Conditioner hair as normal

Banana Hair Mask

This hair mask is great for when you need a little extra moisture and I have also found that it helps cut down on frizziness. I love using this in the summer, as well as after I have dyed my hair for some added moisture. It also leaves your hair smelling amazing!

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • 3 Spoonfuls of Mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS
  • Mix well
  • Apply to dry hair generously, concentrating on the root
  • Leave mask on hair for 30 minutes
  • Shampoo normally

Strawberry Deep Conditioning Mask

This mask works as a deep conditioner and is probably my favorite of the three. It leaves your hair feeling weightless and looking shiny and smooth.

INGREDIENTS
  • 8 Strawberries
  • 2 Tablespoons of mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS
  • Blend well to form a cream
  • Apply generously to wet hair
  • Leave mask on for 15 minutes
  • Shampoo as normal

What do you think? Love it? Hate it?

Do you have any of your own DIY Hair Mask recipes, let me know because I love to try out new things!

Some of which I have already featured here on my blog. I just wanted to share the post with you all here as well as it appears on her blog to let her readers in on some of the hot trends in nail polish this Summer.

Straw Manicure: NOTD

Hi Friend! New Here? You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed

Straw Manicure

I'm loving this look!!

I went ahead and painted all of my nails white with Sally Hansen's "White Out" and then took four bright neons and used the end of a drinking straw to achieve the look!!

Maybelline: Color Show : Tenacious Teal

{Source}

Maybelline has a line of product out right now, called Color Show and I have been going back and forth with whether or not to try them out because I have been disappointed in the past with Maybelline nail polishes.  I decided to try it and pick one up. I grabbed "Tenacious Teal".

My observations are that it looks more green than teal. It's really sheer so I needed four coats and I hate having that much polish on my nails. Another thing I noticed is that when I took it off it stained my nails and my fingers. It was everywhere. That rarely happens with other polishes. I had to scrub my hands and my nails for 20 minutes after using the remover just to get them clean of the "green" look.

I am definitely not a fan of this and I don't think I will be trying anything else in the line, even if they are trying to trap me with all their bright colors.

What do you think? Have you tried this line? Love it? Hate it?

Mini Haul: Philosophy at Big Lots

Last week I was catching up on all my blogs that I follow and I came across a post on Nouveau Cheap , that Philosophy makeup would be going on sale at Big Lots in the US for $3. I have always been a fan of Philosophy but I'm not a huge fan of the price tag! I also assume that I was late to the party because when I got to my local Big Lots they did not have much of a selection left. I bought what I thought would be fun to try out and that I hadn't tried before which was actually all the had besides a cosmetic brush that I have tried in the past and don't really care for.

I purchased a lipgloss, a shimmering face powder and an eyeshadow duo for $9.00 which made me quite happy.

Let's start with the Shimmering Face Powder:

The camera is not showing this as well as I would have liked. It is a very light pink powder but it extremely shimmery.  I'm usually not a fan of shimmer on my face but when I purchased this I figured I could use it as a blush and I'm not sure I'll even go that far this may be simply a highlighter (back-up).

The eyeshadow duo:

This duo is called Heaven & Earth, it's very basic which is completely fine. However they are very sheer and it took me quite a bit of product to be able to swatch it. I will definitely work this into my everyday routine though because I love that it is so basic, it's buildable just have some patience.

Last but not least, the lip gloss:

Swatched on a bare lip.

When I first opened this, I got nervous because it's such a bright pink. I was relieved to put it on and find out that it almost completely sheer. It's not sticky at all and it smells delicious! This gloss is called "Angel Kiss" and most of my family calls me Angel (short for Angela) so even if I didn't like it I was grabbing it anyway based on the name.

What do you all think of this? Were you able to pick up any Philosophy products, if you have a Big Lots?  Love it? Hate it?

Twistbands: Review

{Source}

A few months ago I received a "Twistband" in my Birchbox and when I did a little bit of research on it I realized that it was a hair tie, made in the USA. We all remember the days when it was so "cool" to have scrunchy's in every different color to match every different outfit. Style has evolved though and as Carrie Bradshaw once said "No self respecting woman would ever be caught dead in a scrunchy" or something to that effect.  The scrunchy evolved into small elastic hair ties that if you're like me with thin hair cause breakage and headaches and unflattering dents when you pull your hair down. The Twistband is made from elastic trim and they claim to stretch and support any hairstyle without causing headaches, breakage or dents. After trying my free one from Birchbox, I fell in love. So I had to have a pack of my own! I was so excited when this came in my mail!

I have been wearing these everyday. I haven't had any breakage when pulling them out. As well as there hasn't been a dent in site. They are so comfortable. You can mix and match and make your own, they even have ones with charms on them. I chose the metallic set because I wanted them to fit in on my wrist as a "bracelet" when my hair was down so I would always have a tie on hand. I absolutely love this product and I plan to order some more sets!! The sets cost anywhere from $5 - $12 depending on what you choose. The ones I have are 3 for $10, now while I realize that is almost crazy for 3 hair ties, they really are little miracle workers!

These bracelets ship to US and Canada. Get yours here Twistbands

Has anyone else tried these? Love it? Hate it?

Polka Dot Manicure

I wanted to show you guys this fun DIY Manicure today because I am absolutely obsessed with it! One of my favorite things to do is watch YouTube videos of different "Beauty Guru's" to catch up on the latest trends that maybe not everyone has seen or just to see if they do something different than I do with makeup, skincare or nails. I am subscribed to one Guru who always has something new and exciting I watch her channel religiously and I am always amazed at what she comes up with, especially with her nails. She posted a video last night on three different variations of a polka dot manicure and I was hooked! I immediately needed to try it. I'm going to link her video below because it is definitely a must see!!

I chose to do the third version that she shows in her video. This was such a fun manicure to try and the best part is, you can do it yourself! If you went to a salon to have this done, I don't even want to think about what they would try to charge you.  I made a few variations from hers first being obviously the colors. Second, instead of using dotting tools because I don't have any and I hate to spend money if you can find another way to do something with things you already have. She mentions that you can cut the end off of a Q-tip and do it but I found I just couldn't get the right effect so I ended up using something that I am positive most women have lying around, a BOBBY PIN. It was so easy and gave me the perfect sized cutest little polka dots.  I can't wait to try out other looks with this and now that I know a bobby pin can double as a dotting tool, there is no limit to where I can go with this.

I didn't have a plate lying around that I was willing to ruin with nail polish so I went ahead and used the back of a nail polisher remover wipes box. I just dripped the polish on the box and went ahead and used the bobby pin. I used Sally Hansen Pacific Blue for my base and then seven other colors for the dots.

Tweet me pictures if you try this manicure!

Makeup Starter Kit: Drugstore Products

Hi Friend! New Here? You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

DrugStore Starter Kit

People are always asking me what I recommend for someone just starting out in makeup, someone who hasn't worn makeup in awhile or someone simply looking for a fresh start who doesn't want to break the bank.  So rather than give single recommendations, I figured I would put it all in one place and give you all a "Drugstore Starter Kit". These products are some of my favorite drugstore items and I feel like they would work perfectly for a beginner or someone looking to spice up their everyday routine!!

E.L.F. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer - $6.00

This clear multipurpose skin primer will prepare your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a long lasting satin finish. I've found that it diminishes pores and fills wrinkles. I absolutely love this primer.

 Maybelline Super Stay 24HR  Foundation - $8.79

This is the perfect foundation for anyone who is looking for medium to full coverage, it has a                    micro-flex formula so it withstands heat, sweat and humidity. This has awesome staying power, I'd say eight hours without moving even without being set, with no transfer. It really keeps your skin looking flawless.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer - $7.94

This is the best under eye concealer that I have tried. It gets rid of puffiness, fine lines and under eye circles with little product. The applicator is simple and easy to use.

Covergirl Smoothers Pressed Powder - $7.79

I use this powder to set my foundation and it simply locks everything in place. It has these special light reflecting ingredients that help cover imperfection and helps make your look flawless.

NYC Bronzer "Sunny" - $2.49

N.Y.C. Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder gives you the healthy look of a tan, instantly, without having to spend hours in the sun. Add a warm dusting of golden color to your skin. This is perfect for all skin types. It can be used as a contour or all over face powder, I have done both and I love it. What makes this perfect is that it's a matte bronzer so you aren't left super shimmery and shiny. (I have been hearing for over a year that this has been discontinued, but I find it in stores all the time. So I have no idea.)

Maybelline Bouncy Blush "Hot Tomale" - $6.39

I could rave about this blush for days. It the perfect formula and has just the right amount of pigment. It's completely buildable if you want a brighter look or a few swipes will give you a sublte flushed look. I switch between using my finger to apply and a stipling brush.

NYX HD Eye Shadow Base - $7.00

This is a lightweight primer that preps your lids and prevents creasing. It evens out your skin tone and helps to pump up your eye shadow color. I use this religiously.

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow "Give Me Gold" - $7.99

I love this palette. It's has the best application, super pigmented and amazing staying power. I feel like it would work well on most skin tones. This quad can be a neutral every day look or smoked out for a night out on the town.

Maybelline Gel Eye Liner - $7.94

I use this for my waterlines, upper lash line and even my lower lash line with a smudging brush. It's super sleek and goes on dark and doesn't smudge. It can even be used to wing out your liner with the proper brush. Most times I use the brush that comes in the pack, but every once in a while if I want a thinner application I'll take my E.L.F. eyeliner brush and apply it that way.

Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies "Black Drama" - $5.04

This mascara is AMAZING. I'm a fan of false lashes but when using this mascara I don't need them. You'll get a matte look, super polished, extremely voluminous finish with no gaps. This is extremely black and has awesome staying power.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter "Cupcake" - $7.49

The perfect light pink which will suit almost any skin tone. This lip butter is super smooth and moisturizing and most of the time you can get away without even wearing gloss.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss "Shine City" - $5.14

This is a light pink almost clear lip gloss that is the perfect companion to most skin tones and lip colors. It much less sticky than most glosses and has a pretty fair staying power.

I hope this post helped you all. If anyone is just starting out in makeup or looking for a face revival these are perfect product pairings for an affordable, wallet-friendly price. I recommend all of them. You can get everything I talked about here for around $80.00 overall depending on your area. That may sound expensive at first glance but when you compare all the products you get you end up with an entire makeup routine whereas if you went the high end route you may only get two or three products for the same price. These prices are based from my local Target, Walmart and CVS. The best thing with drugstore products is that it can be even cheaper than what I have listed because there are always sales going on and coupons for most products are easy to find. I would be willing to bet with coupons and sales you could probably get this look for around $50.00.

What's your favorite piece of drugstore makeup? Have you tried these products?

Beauty Box 5: Review: My First Box!

I was so excited to get my first beauty box! I have heard amazing reviews all over YouTube and different blog sites. When it showed up in my mailbox I had it open before even getting back inside my front door, I couldn't contain myself! It comes in a pretty teal box and inside of the box all your samples are in a cute little tulle bag. It was such a fun box to open!!

In total I received eight samples!! Yes, you heard me eight!! I did a happy dance when I was pulling everything out!! I wanted to go ahead and tell you a little bit about what I received. I'll put my **opinion** on each product in italics.

In order from top left:

3 foil packs of Merlot Moonlight Radiance Night Cream
Full Size - $19.00

Apply nightly to face, neck and chest area after washing and toning skin. You don't have to reserve this little jewel strictly for night. Felicity's Tip: When you're feeling a little dry or your skin is a little less than luster-ful just mix a little of the Moonlight Radiance Night Cream with your favorite toner (for a thinner texture) and apply to the areas where you need a little love. -- Now this I am super excited to try because it just looks like it is going to smell amazing! I'll report back :)

2 foil packs of "It's a 10" samples (Miracle Hair Mask & Miracle Styling Serum)
Full Size: Mask - $22.96 Serum - $24.96

Mask: The Miracle Hair Mask from It's a 10 turns your locks up to 11! This high-performance mask gives you detangling, frizz reduction, vibrant color, and amazing body all in one. Just work through cleansed hair for one to three minutes and then rinse - in no time, you'll see more manageable, shinier, softer hair. -- I have been dying to try this but scared to spend the money on the full size. I am SO excited it is in this box.

Serum: No matter your style, get a flawless finish every time with It's a 10's Miracle Styling Serum. Whether your goal is bouncy curls or flowing straight locks, this serum is the solution for you. It protects hair from heat styling and environmental damage with naturally-derived ingredients like argania spinosa kernel oil (a hair-softening antioxidant), noni fruit oil (which improves elasticity while repairing damage to the hair shaft) and castor oil copolymer (moisturizes and provides deep conditioning). -- I've tried this before and I love it but a full size is almost $25 so it's not something I buy often, I'm definitely glad to have a sample. It smells fab!

1 jar of Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in the scent Hawaiian Kukui
Full Size: $7.49

Luxuriate in the infusion of organic shea butter, cocoa butter, and safflower seed oil. This extra thick body butter seals in moisture, giving you renewed skin with a healthy sheen. -- You guys, I can't even begin to put into words how amazingly wonderful this stuff smells, I'm obsessed. I use the Tree Hut Body Scrubs so this is something new and fun to try. It's super moisturizing and as I type this eight hours after applying my skin still feels smooth. I'll definitely be purchasing the full size for $7.49!

1 Jar of Evie Evan Gentle Enzyme Peel
Full Size: $16.00

Restore healthy skin tone while unclogging pores. The Gentle Enzyme peel reveals smoother, softer skin in seconds. -- Not gonna lie, I am a little terrified to try this product. Only because I have no idea what an enzyme peel is and it smells like Noxema (which I hate). I need to research it a bit more.

Beauty Flash Maxi - Lifting Effect
Full Size: $19.99

Instant beauty spray with lifting effect with firming and toning plant extracts. Shock treatment for improving tone and smoothing features in record time. Ideal for use in case of jet-lag, lack of sleep, and before make-up. It clears signs of tiredness and provides smooth and bright skin within 1 minute. Make-up stays perfect for up to 8 hours. - I have absolutely no idea what this is... That said it sure does look fun to try, especially if it masks the signs of tiredness being that I am an self diagnosed insomniac ;) I have never heard of this company before so I will do a bit more research before trying it out.

I am absolutely thrilled with my first box from this subscription! I am super excited to see what they have in store for the future!! I can definitely say that even though I am a HUGE Birchbox supporter this box by far surpassed my expectations and definitely beat out Birchbox this month!!

What did you think of this month's box?

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color: Ionic Indigo

So a friend of mine saw the ad for Sally Hansen Magnetic polish in a magazine and told me about it and once I started looking at pictures, I knew that I needed to play with it.  I started to research where I could purchase it and I found that my local Walgreens was selling it. I had a moment of sticker shock in the store when I saw the $9.99 price tag because there are cheaper magnetic polishes on the market but I trust Sally Hansen so I was willing to spend the money to try it out. I am so glad I did, this is the best magnetic polish I have used.

It's 3-D like Nail Art in seconds! They say it is a revolutionary formula infused with metallic particles that move when exposed to the specially designed magnet to create an extraordinary effect. The line has eight colors in it including brown, copper, green, blue, purple, red, graphite and silver. The only bad thing I can say about the line is that they are all on the darker side and I almost wish that they would throw in some brighter colors for summer. Other than that I thought it was  amazing and really simple to use with the directions provided on the bottle.

How To Apply

STEP 1: Apply 1 coat of base coat. Shake Magnetic Nail Color to activate. Remove overcap with magnet and set aside. Apply 1 coat of Magnetic Nail Color to all 10 nails and let dry. STEP 2: Apply a thick second coat of color to 1 nail and immediately hold the built-in magnet over the nail. Rest the guide just below the cuticle without touching the wet nail polish. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for all 10 nails and let dry. Finish with top coat.

How do you feel about tons of magnetic polish? Tried it? Love it? Hate it?

NYC Ultra Last Lip Wear: Blue Rose

I wanted to do a small review on a NYC product that I found while browsing the drugstore. It was on sale for $1.00 and it's the best money I ever spent. It's a lipstick in the color "Blue Rose" and it definitely lives up to it's name! It's a crème sheen and is a bright fuchsia with the prettiest blue undertones.  At the right angle in certain lights you can see the perfect hint of a blue sheen. It's a great bright pink and I have been wearing it with clear gloss because it doesn't need much to make it pop.

I think this color would look good on most skin tones. It applies extremely smooth and is super moisturizing. The wear time is around 2-3 hours with gloss and without eating or drinking. I swatched it for you ladies below.

I feel like this is going to be my new go-to summer shade! It kind of reminds me of a MAC color I just can't recall which one.

How do you feel about pinks with blue undertones? What is your favorite summer lipstick? Love it? Hate it?
