Batiste Dry Shampoo: Review

I was super excited to try out this dry shampoo, particularly because Batiste is a line of dry shampoos that I had heard so many excellent things about but I had yet to try anything by them. Having thin, lifeless hair that easily looks oily when not washed for a day, I'm always in the market for that holy grail dry shampoo. I'll try anything once, and sometimes you find one that just sticks. I have to say, Batiste will be hanging out in my hair care routine for quite some time. "Batiste Dry Shampoo is ideal for creating body you crave, while ditching the dirt, oil and grease as it freshens hair in minutes and brings life back to dull, lifeless hair! Simply spray lightly and evenly, massage through with your fingertips, brush out, and voila, strikingly revitalized hair!"   Batiste is available in four amazing scents: Original, Blush, Fresh and Tropical, to tantalize the senses. Original is clean and fresh, while Blush adds a hint of floral tones with notes of red hibiscus, peony, tuberose and lily for those craving a flirtier aroma; Fresh is a unisex scent inspired by the rainforest that has invigorating floral scents and wood musk and sandalwood base notes; and Tropical is ideal for those who desire the exotic coconut aromas of the Caribbean. As a former tanning lotion addict, I tend to gravitate towards anything that smells "tropical" so that is the scent I chose to try out from the four.

What they say...

  • Creates volume
  • Masks dirt and grease
  • Freshens and brings hair back to life
What I say...
  • Awesome scent
  • Completely hides that greasy and unwashed look
  • Easy to use
  • No build up
  • Adds volume
The Verdict...

I'll share a little bit about my hair care routine so you all can see when I am using the product and the positive effect that it has on my hair. I have very thin, lifeless, over-processed and very damaged hair. I try to only wash it every three days. This is a tough task and would be absolutely impossible without some form of dry shampoo because after just one day my hair gets very oily looking and lacks any type of healthy shine or volume. I have started using Batiste in between washes when styling my hair on "unwashed" days and let me just tell you, it ranks high on my "likes" list. I have found with *most* dry shampoos that they work against me by leaving and extra build up after application and Batiste just doesn't do that. It also got brownie points because it lays on my hair clear rather then looking white or grey when I spray it on. Hands down though, my absolute favorite part of this product is the scent! I spray it on and the lovely tropical scent stays with me all day. This is definitely something I would repurchase!

You can purchase full size bottles of one of the four scents for $7.99 or the "on the go" size for $3.99 HERE

How To: Polka Dot Manicure {Revisited}

I shared this super fun polka dot manicure on Instagram and Twitter the other day and I had so many requests for a tutorial that I just had to oblige. It's honestly fairly simple, and most of you will be excited to know that you probably already have the tool to do it. While I do have "dotting tools" specifically for my nails, I rarely use them. I found that the "tool" I use makes it so much easier and simple that it's really my go-to.  I originally shared a polka dot manicure with you all a few months back, but I realize not everyone was following along with me then so I wanted to revisit this manicure because it is quite popular and super easy to achieve. I have done a few manicures in the last few months featuring polka dots, which I will also share with you so you can get a few ideas of how you can incorporate the look into your NOTD.

This is my original polka dot manicure which you can see HERE with a small tutorial attached as well as a You Tube video from one of my favorite beauty guru's where I originally got the idea. (She uses dotting tools). If you notice in the picture above, I use a bobby pin. The small rounded edge of the pin makes it super easy to make the polka dots on your nails.

Can you believe that's all it takes? A bobby pin, that I bet you have lying around the house anyway. It's quite simple. I use a paper plate, drop some polish on dip the end of the bobby pin into the polish and then make the dots on my nails in whichever pattern I am going for that day. If I want all the nails to "sort" of match, I'll start with one color, dot it on each nail and then move on to the next color. I find that just makes it easier, rather then doing one nail at a time. You can find whatever process works best for you, but I promise using the bobby pin makes this super easy. It's fairly easy to make different size dots with the same bobby pin as well, for smaller dots you will just use less polish and obviously for larger dots you'll want to use more when dipping the pin into the polish. As promised, below I am going to share some of my favorite manicures that I used the bobby pin for to make polka dots!

There are so many different manicures you can do and it's as simple has having some time and a bobby pin. I hope this makes it easy for anyone trying to achieve this look. I definitely love finding something I have around the house, rather then spending big bucks on dotting tools.

Let me know if you try out the polka dot manicure and tweet me your pictures!! I love seeing what everyone is rocking on their hands!!

L.A. Colors Darling Palette: Swatch

These palettes are becoming some of my favorites, mainly because they are only $1 at my local Dollar General but also because they have some of the most pigmented colors I have ever used.  L.A. Colors is a lesser known brand but has been definitely making a very known appearance lately as I have seen them in magazine ads in quite a few different monthly subs. I was actually super surprised to see the huge variety of palettes that they do have when I was browsing the website for the first time.

Daring is part of the 5 Color Metallic Eye Shadow Line which has a total of 24 sets. I usually stick to palettes that have less shimmer but I couldn't pass up these gorgeous colors. The neutrals are especially brilliant in this palette and work for a very low key daily look.  The L.A. Colors palette is so pigmented and is very easy to apply. There is little to no flake off from this palette and I especially like the shimmery pink. These shadows have about a 4 hour wear time without creasing when worn without a primer. When used above a primer, the Darling Palette shadows have about a 7/8 hour wear time before creasing. This is the perfect set for anyone looking for something budget friendly but with a lot of color pay off.

All L.A. Colors products are Cruelty Free

NOTD: Who Said Denim Wasn't Cool?

Absolutely loving this Barry M color I have for today's NOTD. It is absolutely stunning and seriously looks like you cut off some denim jeans and glued them to your fingernails!! How cool is that? This is another color from the UK nail polish swap that I did and I am amazed!!

August 2012 Beauty Box Five

I was ecstatic when I opened this months beautybox five because it was filled to the brim with product. As always this is one box that wins my heart every month and I am never disappointed with it as a whole, I feel like I definitely get my money's worth.

INSIDE THE BOX

BLINC EYELINER

I received this in my first ever beautybox five subscription, so when I saw it again this month, I was thrilled. This is seriously one of the best liquid eyeliner's that I have used. It definitely lasts and is completely smudge proof, the bottom swatch is after running my hand under water and as you can see it barely moves.

"Summer just got a little better with this water resistant, no-smudge, easy-to-remove eyeliner that won't turn or flake."

Full Size: $26.00 (Sample $2.46)

ELLIS FAAS CREAMY, GLAZED LIPS

I was definitely excited at first glance to see these two full sized lip products from a brand I have not heard of. I knew instantly they would pay for the box and make it worth it. Unfortunately, the two colors I received are awful. One is almost a burnt sienna color and the other a very coppery orange, I'm not a fan. While I appreciate the full sized products and the expense of each, I wish they would have catered the color to my skin tone a bit more. Also, even it was a color that I enjoyed  there is almost little to know chance that I would actually repurchase and spend $35 on a lip product.

"Just twist the bottom of this gorgeous silver pen and you'll be wearing the new lip product that everyone is talking about."

Full Size: $35.00 (x2)

FERRO COSMETICS SHEER CRYSTAL VEIL

I'm definitely excited to try out this powder as a highlighter. It seems to have a variety of uses, so I can't wait to add it into my routine and see what I can come up with. It's super sheer so that I definitely a plus for me, you can barely see it in the swatch, which tells me it will definitely be subtle on the face.

"This multi-purpose powder is the answer to illuminated skin! Dust over or under foundation or mix with moisturizer for a dewy soft finish without the shimmer or glitter."

Full Size: $19.00

H2O PLUS RESTORING EYE CREAM

I am always searching for new eye creams, and the fact that this month I got two in my box that are pretty good sizes, I am thrilled. I can't wait to try this out. The full size is actually reasonable for an eye cream so it may be something that if I like I would consider repurchasing.

"Use this marine, botanical-infused eye cream to deeply nourish and reduce the look of fine lines and dark circles."

Full Size: $35.00 (Sample $8.00 x2)

BLUM NATURALS MAKE UP REMOVER TOWELETTES

I have been loving the blum products that I have been getting through this subscription service, this is just another that I am super excited to try out.

"Remove oil, dirt and makeup with these deep-cleaning towelettes that leave your skin feeling soft and silky smooth."

Full Size $3.99 (Sample: $1.17)

Total value of my box: $108.63

That total value speaks for itself. This is one of the best subscription boxes out there, for only $12 a month I have more than got my moneys worth. I was overall happy with this box, except for those lip colors but all in all I would say beautybox did an amazing job.

I'd rate this months box a 9/10.

Do you get BB5? What was in your box this month?

August 2012 Birchbox

This Birchbox post is super late this month because when I received the box it was soaking wet, they cleanser had exploded everywhere and ruined my box. I was probably 10 seconds away from cancelling because as you all know I have had a love hate relationship with Birchbox recently, however the offered to replace the box so I decided to continue. I was excited with the replacement box because they sent a full size of the cleanser that had exploded instead of another travel sized, so I thought that was super customer service and quite nice of them.

DDF BRIGHTENING CLEANSER

I love that they sent me a full sized product to replace what exploded. I have been wanting to try out this product so I am super excited that I have the ability to do so. I already know that it smells amazing, because the box smelled great lol.

"This foaming gel uses an all-star team of skin brighteners to fade discoloration and even out skin tone."

Full Size: $35.00

JUICY COUTURE VIVA LA FLEUR

I am not a fan of perfume samples in subscription boxes but I don't have much to say about this one because I love Viva La Juicy and this is one I wanted to try it. I've already used up the sample and will definitely be buying the full size.

"This modern scent is a feminine blend of wild berries, mandarin, and waterlily."

Full Size: $70

NOIR LONG-WEAR EYELINER

This is a super black eye liner but I wore it for a few days and contrary to what it says it is really prone to smudging. I can't say that I am a huge fan of it.

"Infused with vitamin E and jojoba oil, this waterproof liner will stay put all day and night."

Full Size: $15.00

OSCAR BLANDI JASMINE CONDITIONER

Maybe I am just greedy, I don't know... I'm kind of irked that they sent a sample conditioner without a shampoo. I would rather have both in the product line to try. I will definitely give this a try though and see how it works out.

"This nourishing conditioner hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down."

Full Size: $22.00

SCHICK HYDRO SILK RAZOR

I think this was the "Lifestyle Extra" this month, I really don't have much to say on this. I have a few stockpiled from the coupons that were out and Schick's Facebook page was giving them away last month. They're alright but not my favorite.

I'd rate this box an 6/10.

August 2012 Glossybox

This is just my second month receiving a Glossybox and while I am not over the moon excited with it, I'm not disappointed enough to cancel. Glossybox has a good selection of deluxe beauty samples that they cater to a personal profile that you fill out and I was definitely excited to see some full size items this month.

INSIDE THE BOX

Truth is, even if this box only showed up with the nail polish I would have been happy!! It definitely made the entire box worth it this month.

BIOLAGE EXQUISITEOIL REPLENISHING TREATMENT

I am excited to try this treatment out, it smells fabulous!! I'm disappointed in the size of this sample because I feel like there isn't enough to give me a good idea of whether or not it worked.

"This treatment is a versatile serum infused with a Moringa Oil Blend. This ultimate potion gives instant shine and weightless replenishment to all hair types."

Full Size: $22.00

ELLIS FAAS

This is the 3rd Ellis Faas lip pen I have received this month, I got two others in a different monthly subscription and this one is the nicest of the three but I'm just not that into it. It's way too dark and doesn't match my skin tone whatsoever.

"The lightweight and long-lasting lip products come in three fabulous textures; creamy lips for a matter finish, milky lips for a gloss finish and glazed lips for a touch of color. They are paraben-free, loaded with vitamin E and blend into the lips leaving them soft and conditioned."

Full Size: $35.00

ILLAMASQUA NAIL VARNISH *PURITY*

I can't even describe just how excited I was to see this in the box! I have yet to try this brand and they picked a perfect color. I'm super excited to wear this.

"Award-winning, extremely hardwearing and chip-resistant, there's an Illamasqua Nail Varnish for every shade of humanity. Apply two coats for extra intensity. Make a statement and talk with your hands."

Full Size: $14.00

OLE HENRIKSEN TRUTH SERUM

I used to use a vitamin C serum from Avon when I was in high school and they ended up discontinuing it. I loved how it made my skin feel. I am interested to see if something like this will work the same.

"This high powered vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles, fights environmental aggressors and keeps your skin moisturized, nourished and protected. Apply mornings and evenings."

Full Size: $48.00

TOUCH IN SOL FEEL LIKE HONEY MOON SKIN BASE

I have received enough primers these last few months that I don't think I will need to buy one for about two years. This one is the most interesting though as it has a honey base which also works to firm your skin. I'm interested to try it out.

"Apply this fantastic primer after your skincare routine and before your makeup. Its honey texture firms and revitalizes the skin and allows for a better makeup application."

Full Size: $20.00

I know that for some they are turned off by the $21/Monthly price tag attached to Glossybox but in my opinion it has the potential to definitely be worth it. I will be keeping this subscription for the next few months and I am excited to see what they have in store for us beauty junkies.

I would rate this box a 8/10.

August 2012 Beauty Army Kit

I have been loving this subscription service, this is my second month and I was super excited when I chose my samples, yes you heard right, with Beauty Army you are able to choose from a wide variety of samples each month and choose the six you want. This is my favorite part, because you have control and each box you get is catered directly to you.

BESAME COSMETICS CRIMSON CREAM ROUGE

When this showed up as one of the selections I could pick I was super excited because I absolutely love cream blushes. This color is gorgeous and the best part is it can be used on your lips and cheeks.

"For instant rosy cheeks and lips there is nothing more timeless than our vintage inspired cream rouge. Just a touch of this concentrated cream will give you a natural flush, just like the very first time you were kissed!"

Full Size: $22.00

EYE CANDY COOLERS

I am so excited that I was able to choose these, if you follow me on twitter then you already know how jealous I was when they popped up in everyone else's boxes. I love a good spa night and these are just what you need after a long day.

"Eyecandy coolers are reusable, chill-able, candy-colored soft gel rounds that work quickly to reduce puffiness, minimize dark circles and fine lines, relieve allergy symptoms, and instantly soothe pesky tension or stress headaches. Eyecandy coolers may be safely used over and over again."

Full Size: $12.00

ATZEN PROTECTIVE DAY CREAM

I chose this because I am always on the look out for holy grail skin care products and I have been working hard for a few months trying new things to see what I want as my permanent regimen. The only thing that is initially turning me off is the price of the full sized product, that may be a bit more than I am willing to spend on a day cream.

"Protection from pollutants for radiant & supple skin. Reverses signs of aging & sensitivity; provides 24 hours of hydration."

Full Size: $79.00

ATOPALM INTENSIVE MOISTURIZING CREAM

This is a product I can definitely see myself repurchasing because it does have a reasonable price tag attached for the full size item. I'm super glad that I chose this because it was the perfect travel sized item to throw in my bag while I was away and I have been loving it. It's paraben free which is a huge plus and it is for dry and sensitive skin.

"This unique, paraben free, patented MLE formula, containing plant derived ingredients, mimics the structure of the natural skin lipids and aids in the replenishment of the loss of natural skin lipids in the stratum corneum helping to restore the skins’ protective moisture barrier. It also helps prevent the over evaporation of the skins’ own moisture and protects it from environmental stresses. In addition, it aids in restoring the natural lipids lost from the skin barrier which are depleted by microdermabrasion and other harsh treatments. It leaves the skin feeling soft and supple."

Full Size: $30.00

KELLETT SKINCARE MOISTURIZING GEL

I chose this because I have really been interested in the moisturizers that are gel like so I wanted to broaden my search and check out some higher end products. The gel like moisturizers seem to work better for me. Hopefully this one will follow suit.

"Oil free hydrating gel improves skin's moisture retention while helping to reduce blemishes, calm inflammation and fade pigmentation. Anti-aging peptides help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles."

Full Size: $95.00

CELLCEUTICALS PHOTODEFENSE SPF 55+

I always wear moisturizers with a high SPF in them so I was excited to see this being offered. I have been building quite the collection of CellCeuticals products and I am excited to see how they all work out.

"Photo-Defense Anti-PhotoAging Daily Skin Protector is an ultra light hydrating formula with patent pending Photoplex, which provides extreme anti-aging protection against daily UVA and UVB sun exposure, oxidative stress, and glycation. Fortified with a powerful Auto-Defense System and vitamin D to help strengthen the skin's natural defenses. "

Full Size: $45.00

This is a pretty good deal for $12/month. I am absolutely thrilled that I signed up for this service and I can't wait for next month. I am excited to start trying some of these products!

I'd rate this box a 10/10!

I am really excited to be bringing you an amazing product line today along with a giveaway. I was able to try out a brand new shampoo and conditioner and a hair masque targeted towards hair that lacks volume. The smoothing capability that each product has is very desirable. I have seen a significant difference in my hair since I began using the HBL Volumizing System. NOTD: A UK Mani

This has got to be my new favorite color. Obsessed? Absolutely. This may turn into a problem, since it was sent to me straight from the UK from the wonderful Natalie, for a look at my other swap goodies check out the post here. I wanted to share this NOTD with you all because I am love, love, loving it!

Organix Awapuhi Ginger Shampoo & Conditioner: Review

Organix repairing awapuhi ginger shampoo and conditioner smell absolutely amazing and are such a luxurious  combination. Both the shampoo and conditioner are enriched with awapuhi ginger extract which claims to instantly mend and soften dry, coarse hair while stimulating the scalp with keratin proteins.  They work from the inside out to leave your hair moisturized and soft to the touch.

What they say...

  • Strengthen hair
  • Mend split ends
  • Return moisture to dry & damaged hair
  • Heals brittle, frizzy, unruly hair
What I say...
  • Great smell
  • Lightweight
  • Restores moisture
  • Mends split ends
The Verdict...

This shampoo and conditioner combination is perfect for daily use, no heavy build up is left behind. Organix repairing awahupi ginger shampoo tremendously aids in repairing over processed, color treated and dry hair while the conditioners adds significant moisture allowing your hair to get back to a soft, supple and shiny state.  I have searched many lines of products to find something that has that repairing nature and this fits the bill. I like to switch it up every now and again especially with hair care products but I have to say this one has  stuck around for a bit. I love how it leaves my hair feeling and smelling. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for extra moisture but a drugstore price.

This product retails for $7.99 each HERE or can be found in most Walmarts, Targets and local drugstores.

My Top 8 Summer Nail Polishes

I can't help but go back in time to my high school days and think about MySpace every time I saved one of these photos and named this post "My Top 8", am I the only one who misses MySpace and adding people to their Top 8? I'm almost certain it's just me lol. I am so happy to be back to my blog, I was away for two weeks helping a friend move and while I thought I would still get some things posted, it didn't end up that way, her internet service was not cooperating so I definitely apologize for my absence! I'm back now and look forward to catching up with everyone!!  Anyway, on to the nail polish. I wanted to share with everyone what my favorite colors are to rock for the summer!

ESSIE - Fruity Sangria - A hot pink creme finished pink with subtle hints of shimmer. This color rocks for any skin tone but looks great with a tan all summer long.

ESSIE - Bikini So Teeny - This sparkling cornflower blue is the perfect shade for summer, I have been rocking it on my toes for a few weeks and I just love it.

CHINA GLAZE - Flip Flop Fantasy - A perfect neon pink that screams summer. This color is knock your socks off bright and definitely graces my nails quite a few times in the hot summer months.

LOREAL - Boozy Brunch - Everything about this bright orange from the name to the shade embodies a great summer color.

ZOYA - Shelby - Isn't she gorgeous? Shelby is a pale soft pink that has the most gorgeous creme finish and is perfect for when I want to be a little extra girly.

NYC - Water Street Blue - I won't lie, I have three bottles of this color because every time I go into a store it catches my eye and I forget that I have it. An amazing bright blue for summer.

JULEP - Mila - We certainly can't let a favorites post go by without adding a little glitter. If you follow my NOTD posts you have probably noticed that most times I add a glitter accent it is usually this color. Obsessed? I think so.

JULEP - Robin - If you are looking for that perfect Robin's egg blue, look no further. This color is gorgeous and has the best creme finish I have ever used.
