The Drugstore Series: Foundation

Drugstore Foundation

Hi Ladies and welcome to this week's edition of the Drugstore Series! Check out the previous weeks, where we chatted about Lipstick & Mascara.

Foundation is definitely the most important part of my makeup routine and I'm sure it's the same for others. High end foundations can end up costing a fortune especially if you're playing with different shades and textures to match your skin. We all know that I am a huge budget beauty advocate so I have been through loads of foundations from the drugstore looking for the ones that work just right. This series is for people who are looking for that great makeup look and don't want to spend millions, I've put together five different drugstore foundations that can easily lend themselves to everyone's makeup routine blending nicely with all skin tones and types.

Maybelline BB Cream is an 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector, I've tried BB cream after BB cream and some of them cost upwards to $60 so imagine my surprise when my favorite of them all is a drugstore brand. When this came out, I was probably first in live to get it. It offers a light sheer tint for light to medium coverage. I found that this evens out my skin nicely and unlike other drugstore BB's does not leave me looking dewy or oily. I do cover this with a translucent powder when I use it in the winter to set it in and keep moisturized but for the summer this BB cream is enough for me to use without anything else (including concealer). It isn't a true BB cream in where it covers everything but it does what it's supposed to and would be my go-to product when looking for a drugstore BB cream. Available for $7.44 at most drugstores.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind foundation is a full coverage foundation with SPF 18 that also has high concentrations of Goji Berry and collagen to help fight the signs of aging. Used with or without a concealer the Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup hides crows feet and fine lines and covers well without leaving that caked on look. I find this is best used without a powder will keep the rest of your makeup set for up to 8 hours. The sponge applicator is the best part, it makes it quick and easy to use without having to decided on a brush or the finger method. The applicator slides the makeup on smoothly to give you a nice air  brush effect and a flawless finish. Available for $9.99 at most drugstores.

NYC Smooth Skin Liquid Makeup is an extremely moisturizing foundation with lightweight coverage for a flawless finish. The color lasts for 6-8 hours and has a smooth finish. It's easy applied with a makeup sponge or foundation brush. The only issue I have with this one is there is no pump so it's a bit hard to get out, you have to fish for it a bit but it's worth it. It's available for $2.99 in the drugstore and is a good addition to any makeup kit.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation this came highly recommend from everyone in the beauty blogging/vlogging world. While I was looking for a new foundation for the winter to cover up my dry skin, everyone I asked seemed to say go for this one. I'm glad I listened, it has quickly become a favorite. The whipped foundation is a lightweight foundation with close to medium coverage. The mousse-like texture aids in the flawless airbrush like finish this leaves you with. I top it with the Covergirl Clean powder and I'm good to go. It's available for $10-$14 in most drugstores.

Wet N Wild Ultimate Match is a sheer to medium coverage liquid foundation, I found that it gave me more of a full coverage look though. It's lightweight and lends itself nicely to your everyday makeup routine, it lasts around 7-9 hours when set with powder. It has a semi-matte finish so you still get that natural luminous, almost dewy (but not oily) look when applying. I usually just apply this with my fingers in an upward and outward motion. This tends to lean towards the darker side, so I always buy it in a shade lighter then I normally would. It's available for $4.99 in most drugstores.

What are some of your favorite drugstore foundations?

  2. The Maybelline age rewind concealer has been a staple item with me for a few months. Love it! I want to try the Revlon whipped cream foundation. I just wish there are testers around as it's so hard to guess from the glass jar what the real color is. Currently, I'm using Revlon Nearly Naked foundation which gives a very natural, sheer finish. Perfect for every day wear.

  5. If Target counts as "drugstore" I love the Stay Perfect from Boots. They have tester so they can match you up, a lot of stores have beauty advisors in the Chicago area. I also like the Maybeliine BB ( I tried like 7 high to low end) and I agree this one is a stand out. I also like the Covergirl Olay Tone Rehab, it is a really nice formula.
