Winter is by far my least favorite season when it comes to my beauty routines. It wreaks havoc on our skin and hair which can be the most frustrating thing. Some days I feel like I could put a bottle of moisturizer on my face and still end up dry, and the same goes conditioner wise with my hair. It’s just how I’ve always been. So over the years, I’ve come up with some tips and tricks to keep my hair in great condition during the winter months, with the help of great products. And good news for you guys, they’re super affordable and you can buy them in bulk!
Winter Hair Care Tips
1. Use a Smoothing Shampoo
One of my biggest winter woes is frizzy hair. Because my hair tends to be drier in the winter, it’s like the frizz just comes out to play with a vengeance. To combat this, grab a smoothing shampoo, like the Suave Avocado + Olive Oil Smoothing Shampoo. Made with 100% natural avocado and olive oil, which are known for their rich emollients, this fresh and gentle shampoo smooths as it cleanses, leaving dry, frizzy hair touchably soft and smooth.
2. Don’t Use Super Hot Water
Because I do creative color, I’ve weaned myself away from hot showers. However, this is a good tip for everyone during the winter, while it may feel great to hop into a hot shower, it’s just not good for your hair. Not only does hot water fade color faster but it dries your hair out. You don’t have to jump into a freezing shower, warm water is fine.
3. Protect Your Hair From Heat
If you absolutely have to use heat tools on your hair, make sure you’re investing in a heat protectant so that you’re keeping your hair healthy.
4. Condition, condition, condition.
The most important thing to do for your hair during the harsh winter months is conditioning. And some people will just grab whatever and not really put much thought into it and/or they think a once a month mask would work. I’ve found that if you’re using the right daily conditioner on top of using your masks, your hair will be in much better shape. I told you about the Suave Avocado + Olive Oil Smoothing Shampoo and when used as a system of shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner, Suave Professionals Avocado + Olive Oil gives you: 10 times smoother hair (vs a non-conditioning shampoo), hair that stays smooth for up to 3 days, and protection from frizz, even in 95% humidity.
5. Drink Water and Eat Your Vegetables
I hate vegetables so even typing this, I’m laughing. I do make it a point to try to grab some though and get them in. Honestly, it’s really the best way. If you keep yourself all kinds of healthy, it’s obvious that your skin, nails, and hair will follow suit. Stay hydrated and reach for healthier options and I promise you you’ll notice a difference. If you’re a Sam’s Club member, you can get all the stuff you need to repair your colored hair at an affordable price and without the fear of running out. Sam’s Club has a huge hair collection, so you’re able to pick up premium Unilever club-sized packs. You can choose from a few different club-sized packs. Tresemme, Suave, and Nexxus each have club-sized packs. You get a ton of product and Sam’s Club makes your shopping trip easy.
Sam’s Club has a Scan & Go app which is one of the coolest things I have found when shopping. It makes everything super easy and quick. You download the app, and as you’re making your way through the store you scan the barcodes on the products you’re picking up and it adds everything to your queue. When you’re finished shopping you can actually pay right inside of the app, head to the exit, they scan your code in the app and you’re on your way. No lines. It’s the best ever.
