[…] Berry Kale Smoothie […]
I have to be honest never in my 29 years of life did I ever think that I would be writing a post with the the title ‘Berry Kale Smoothie’ & getting ready to tell y’all how delicious it was to boot. It just isn’t something I would willingly ever want to eat, the kale that is. I hate all things green spinach, broccoli, green beans if it’s green I’m not eating it. The thought of broccoli gives me hives, it’s so crazy that in high school I had a friend who would get the Wednesday special ‘Cream Of Broccoli’ soup and I would pull a total “Mean Girls” moment and yell “You can’t sit with us!!” because the smell made me gag. So when it came to kale in any form even a berry kale smoothie, I was having no parts of it. However, Pinterest is the land of oz and oh so addicting and it seems like every blogger in the history of ever is on this kale kick so I figured what the heck, I’m trying to lose weight and eat healthier so why not try it out. I’ve done the healthy dinner options, the salads and ALL the exercises so it was time to branch out & find more!I figured I could hide it in a smoothie with all kinds of fruit and if it ended up being disgusting I would just feed it to my garbage disposal of a husband and be on my way. Going into it I was CERTAIN (yes, I’m way over dramatic) that I would not live to tell this tale. The kale would almost certainly kill me upon first taste, right? WRONG!
Berry Kale Smoothie
Let me just tell you, it’s absolute amazing! I got to use all of this fresh fruit and greek yogurt and some soy milk and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a bright pink and not some nasty green or gray color because if had ended up that way I can promise you I would not have even tasted it. I would have thrown it away and pretended it never happened. I had taken to Twitter before making it and gotten some tips to either add peanut butter or vanilla extract to mask the taste, I went with the vanilla extract because as most of you know I’m doing Weight Watchers so I wanted to keep this baby low in points but high in nutrients and energy as well!
- 1 banana
- 1 cup soy milk
- 1 package Yoplait blueberry greek yogurt
- 1 cup of kale
- 4-5 strawberries
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 2-3 drops vanilla extract
- 2-3 ice cubes
- Toss into a blender.
- Blend well.
- Pour & drink.
And there you have it – a Berry Kale Smoothie! Easy and oh so good! So good in fact that I drank both portions and the only reason I knew the kale was in there is because I put it in there, could not taste it at all!
Looks so good! I will have to try it. Thanks for the recipe!
Looks yummy!
Hi, I just stumbled upon your recipe for the Berry Kale Smoothie on Pinterest and was wondering if you think we could substitute almond milk for the soy milk. It sure looks delicious, and we would love to try it, but cannot have soy.
Hi Tania! I would absolutely think that you could sub the soy for almond milk, my husband actually uses whole milk instead of soy so I think it would be fine! I know some people have even used water and no milk at all. 🙂
Hey this is a great idea to sneak in my greens to my diet. I didn’t think the color of the kale wouldn’t be so obvious. Thanks!
I’ve got to try this! I usually mix berries with spinach for iron!
I love a good smoothie, and this one looks delicious! This definitely has my kind of ingredients…thanks for sharing!
