Clear Up Acne With These 7 Tips!

April 14, 2014

We all want to clear up acne, right?  Having a zit is in some cases truly irritating. Truth be told, it is one of those things that drives me incredibly insane. Trying to combat a breakout & clear up acne is something I have become close friends with over the years. I never had chronic acne as a teenager and that’s pretty much stayed the same through my adult life however every once in awhile there it is… the dreaded pimple. Even if you’re doing everything right; a breakout can still come along on & rain on your parade. Is that not the worst?. Whether it’s that time of the month or I’m having a reaction to a new product. Mine always show up in the same spot and it just puts a damper on my entire mood.  I’ve come up with a few tips and tricks along the way that help me clear up acne and battle those dreaded breakouts. We’ve talked about acne face mapping and super foods for your skin but I wanted to go a bit further and really dive into what works for me in a quest to clear up acne!

Clear Up Acne With These 7 Tips! #skincare #beauty #makeup #tips

7 TIPS TO CLEAR UP ACNE

1. DON’T POP IT. This is the biggest one, and I can’t stress it enough! Do not under any circumstances think that popping said pimple will make anything better. It won’t. Touching it won’t help either, you’re just transmitting more germs and probably making it worse. Popping it is going to leave you with further irritation, possible infection and some pretty crappy scarring. Just don’t do it. Fight the urge! Try using the apple cider vinegar toner or a favorite skin mask, instead!

2. If your hair touches your face in whatever style you wear it, try to abstain from wearing oil products when working to clear up your acne. I’ve found that this just makes the breakout worse and can even cause more pimples to start popping up.  Just pin those pieces back or try out this 20-second knotted up-do to keep your hair away from your face!

3. Try not to wear makeup if you’re really battling your acne, I know you probably think I’m nuts because we wear makeup to cover those blemishes but at the end of the day, it’s just putting you at risk of further contamination and preventing the acne from clearing up. I try to stear clear of wearing makeup when I am trying to clear up acne. If you absolutely have to wear it (been there, won’t leave the house without it sometimes) make sure you’re not using anything new that you don’t already know how your skin will react to.

4. If you’re using oil-based or alcohol based skin care products, try giving your skin a bit of a break from them and switch to something with active-ingredients known to clear up acne. One of my favorites solutions is the Clearasil Superfruits line! You could also try out some DIY Home Beauty Recipes to fight the dreaded pimple!

5. Always wash your face with a clean washcloth or brush head (if you’re using a cleansing brush, here is my favorite face brush) and switch out your pillow case to be sure there are no germs hiding there!

6. Over-the-counter products are life saving when it comes to battling breakouts! I have certain favorites that I always gravitate towards! Clearasil and Relogy to name a few! Find one that works for you and stick with it!

7. In the event that your breakout is crazy or you just feel like there is something off about it or you can’t get rid of it. Go schedule an appointment with a dermatologist! They will be able to guide you to exactly what products you need to be using and may even prescribe something!

Such great tips! I know that I should definitely change my pillowcase out more often throughout the week. I’ve been trying to clean my makeup brushes more often (once per week) and giving them a mini-clean in between. It seems to be working!

I wouldn’t reach for the toothpaste to spot treat. It’s not worth it. While toothpaste will dry out a blemish, there are other ingredients in the toothpaste that aren’t really meant for your skin. You’ll get redness and irritation from the toothpaste, which makes your pimple even more obvious.

Yesterday i spotted and few spots coming up on my face and got really upset because I’ve been on holidays and my skin has been so clear and the a week out from school starting i spotted some pimples so last night after i washed my face i got some tea-tree oil and dapped them on my spots and this mooring they looked better, they weren’t as red and it some were dried out more then others, which made me super happy 🙂 I would strongly suggest using tea-tree oil!You should be able to find it at ur local chemist or at a health store.

I highly recommend the Cera Ve line of face products, and the Biore brand too. Cera Ve offers really gentle products and has them for all skin types. Biore offers a lot of charcoal products, which I find to work really well with blackheads and my semi-oily skin. That’s just what I use along with Epi-Duo

That’s really useful to know in case I get another breakout. Personally, I use-yes, I know, from drugstore-a Neutrogena microaction cleanser. I used to get a breakout, like, everyday; but with the cleanser, it’s almost completely gone away! Some of the scars-yeah, I used to pop those annoying things-stillare there, though, and I have no idea how to get rid of those…help!!!

🔟 Creating this community has been one of my favorite things about life. What will you find here?! Easy beauty tips and tutorials, attainable fashion, endless Amazon finds, but also the UNCOMFORTABLE stuff: pap smears, depression, anxiety, the effects my husbands addiction had on our marriage, eating disorders, struggles with fertility, body acceptance, and being comfortable in your own skin. I try to keep it as real as humanly possible. Being so vulnerable all of the time isn’t the easiest thing but if it helps just one person feel less alone, I’m good! ⠀⁣

Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thin Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. ⁣
⁣
We’re about two hit two years since Jim entered rehab and I’m forever proud of the changes he made and the man he has become⁣
⁣
For the person reading this who loves an addict. It’s changed you, I know. It made you a little harder to reach. It made getting out a bed a little rough. It’s isolated you from groups of friends. Your hearts a little more closed off then it once was. Your trust is a little bit broken. You’ve felt more alone then you ever have. You’ve felt judged. You’ve felt betrayed. You’ve felt at fault.⁣
⁣
Whether you’re past it or still in the trenches. I want you to know some things. ⁣
⁣
I need you to know that it’s not your fault. I need you to know that you could not have done anything differently. I need you to know that you can’t cure it. You didn’t cause it. And you can’t control it. ⁣
⁣
Most of all I need you to know that it gets better. I need you to know that it’s ok to feel happiness again. It’s ok to put yourself first. It’s ok to take care of your. ⁣
⁣
And you’re not alone. ⁣
⁣
I promise you that there’s a light on this side of the tunnel just waiting for you to walk through. And that light doesn’t mean it’s over, it’s just there to guide you. Because every day could be a battle. ⁣
⁣
I stayed for the battle. But that’s not the only way. If you need to leave that’s okay too. Either way. You have to get to that light. ⁣
⁣
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Go to a meeting yourself. Grab a book (Co-Dependent No More, was helpful for me) listen to a podcast. Get yourself a village. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF⁣
⁣
