Hello again everyone! Are you ready for some more hair fun? The look of the summer is the bun, in all the many ways, shapes and forms it comes in. Buns can be super simple or amazingly complex, but today I wanted to share the most basic and fun style: the 20 second messy bun.
What I love about this bun is that it’s perfect for second, third, or even fourth day hair, when the hair seems limp and lifeless. This tutorial instantly puffs it back up and stretches your wash cycle for an extra day, while looking the right amount of disheveled to still be cute.
20 seconds, that’s all you need.
Step One:
Pull your hair into a high ponytail.
Step Two:
Tease, tease, and tease that hair like crazy.
Step Three:
Twist into a bun and pin it with bobby pins or spin pins.
Step Four:
Gently adjust and voila! 20 second messy bun, done!
The one major tip I have for this style is to be sure you don’t go to sleep with it still in, because you will wake up with a terrible knot that will take forever to untangle. I know this from experience, because lazy. If you take it down the same day, it’s a relatively quick and painless process to brush the tease back out, so don’t be me, lazy.

I’m a big fan of messy buns. Messy hair in general- it’s just quicker & easier 🙂
Love this tutorial! I have curly hair, so when I try to do this it looks like I have a rat’s nest on top of my head and I end up losing bobby pins + hair clips IN my hair LOL. My hot mess hair aside, this looks great on you! I love messy buns.
Ohhh…I’ve never ratted my hair to do a messy bun with dry hair. Usually my messy buns only happen if I don’t have time to dry my hair, so they go up wet. 😉 LOL Thanks for the tips!
