How To Maintain Creative Color

As you all know I’ve been rocking some hot pink hair for a few months. Creative coloring is one of my favorite things. I’ve dipped my feet into creative color a few times in the past with dip dyed ends or peek-a-boo highlights but never have I done my whole my head. I just got bored and wanted to try something a little bit more fun and way different for me. I am so glad that I did, I can honestly say besides my natural color this pink has been fabulous. While creative color is fabulous, caring for it and maintaining the color can be a pretty daunting task for some.

Looking to maintain your creative color? This product guide has everything you need to keep your color bright & and fun!

I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be. You can have awesome creative color and with a bit of help from some awesome products at Sally Beauty you can keep it looking bright and keep the fading at bay for a bit longer than normal. I felt like this was the perfect time to share because with Summer upon us we will all be spending some much needed time outside and the sun is one of the biggest causes of color fade. These products will be your go-to kit to keep your color looking fabulous.

A clarifying shampoo is something that has always been a part of my routine. It’s something that we all want and need for its ability to help eliminate any product build-up. It also gets rid of any dullness and residue. However, in doing all of those wonderful things a clarifying shampoo can also cause your color to fade quickly. This one though, is amazing. It’s specially formulated and part of the Ion Color Solutions line. It’s sulfate free and is a Color Defense Clarifying Shampoo, so it won’t strip your color but will get rid of the build-up. I use this once every week and a half.

The easiest way to keep your color from fading is to not wash it as often. I wash my hair every 3 to 4 days and I don’t want to use a clarifying shampoo each time so I have a sulfate-free shampoo for those in between washes. This is Ion Color Defense Sulfate-Free Shampoo. It’s a gentle cleanser that strengthens color-treated hair while helping increase the life of your color. It prevents color fade and protects your hair from heat tools and environmental damage. It also has ChromaXtend™ to help balance moisture and add shine for vibrant, healthy-looking hair. This is super important for creative color but can also be used for traditional dye as well.

Anytime you dye your hair, it does a bit of damage to it. When I first decided on pink, I was going from a deep dark violet to bright hot pink. So I had to have the violet shade stripped from my hair and then bleach the roots and about halfway down my hair. When I touch up, bleach still goes on the roots and a bit through my hair so that when the pink is applied it’s vibrant and bright.  The stripping and the bleach can really take a toll on your hair, so I use the Ion Color Defense Color Preserving Masque weekly. The masque helps to prolong and brighten color treated hair. This color preserving masque detangles and hydrates dry, damaged hair.

I’ve got really fine hair that tangles easily. It gets especially knotted after I dye it. I love having a leave-in treatment. I always use one. One of my favorites is the Beyond The Zone Protein Cocktail, it’s a party for your hair. Whether it’s styling, color treating, or sun exposure your hair needs some love. The BTZ cocktail provides a shot of Panthenol Pro-Vitamin B5 that will revive damaged hair. Use as a leave-in treatment to detangle your hair and prevent breaks and splits when you comb. It’s a super lightweight product and will also keep your hair super moisturized which is key when color treating. Also, it smells AMAZING.

Shine, we all want our hair to shine. Personally I’d like my hair to shine as bright as the sun. So I’ve called in reinforcements. The Ion Color Defense Detangling Shine Mist is amazing. It provides color-treated hair with the care it needs to stay strong, smooth and protected from heat styling and daily wear and tear from combing and styling. After using creative color the last thing I want to do is have dull & dry hair. A lot of shine sprays will leave your hair looking greasy or oily but this one is super light weight and the way it mists out prevents that. If you need moisture and shine, this baby is for you.

Like I said earlier, the best way to prevent color fade is to not wash your hair everyday. So what do I do on days that I’m not washing? I want to keep my hair looking fresh and fabulous, even on day four. So I grab Fresh Fix from Beyond The Zone. The packaging is what originally caught my eye and I am so glad it did. It works like a dry shampoo would and deodorizes your hair, like a super refresher. It also gives you a bit of texture which helps your hair from laying flat on your head and looking too dull. It gives your hair a  fresh scent, luminous shine, and touchable softness. Shake. Spray. Love.

More than half of them (58 per cent) ̶ 50,000 ̶ were killed by intimate partners or family members, meaning that 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day. More than a third (30,000) of the women intentionally killed in 2017 were killed by their current or former intimate partner ̶ someone they would normally expect to trust.⁣

🔟 Creating this community has been one of my favorite things about life. What will you find here?! Easy beauty tips and tutorials, attainable fashion, endless Amazon finds, but also the UNCOMFORTABLE stuff: pap smears, depression, anxiety, the effects my husbands addiction had on our marriage, eating disorders, struggles with fertility, body acceptance, and being comfortable in your own skin. I try to keep it as real as humanly possible. Being so vulnerable all of the time isn’t the easiest thing but if it helps just one person feel less alone, I’m good! ⠀⁣

Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thin Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. ⁣
⁣
We’re about two hit two years since Jim entered rehab and I’m forever proud of the changes he made and the man he has become⁣
⁣
For the person reading this who loves an addict. It’s changed you, I know. It made you a little harder to reach. It made getting out a bed a little rough. It’s isolated you from groups of friends. Your hearts a little more closed off then it once was. Your trust is a little bit broken. You’ve felt more alone then you ever have. You’ve felt judged. You’ve felt betrayed. You’ve felt at fault.⁣
⁣
Whether you’re past it or still in the trenches. I want you to know some things. ⁣
⁣
I need you to know that it’s not your fault. I need you to know that you could not have done anything differently. I need you to know that you can’t cure it. You didn’t cause it. And you can’t control it. ⁣
⁣
Most of all I need you to know that it gets better. I need you to know that it’s ok to feel happiness again. It’s ok to put yourself first. It’s ok to take care of your. ⁣
⁣
And you’re not alone. ⁣
⁣
I promise you that there’s a light on this side of the tunnel just waiting for you to walk through. And that light doesn’t mean it’s over, it’s just there to guide you. Because every day could be a battle. ⁣
⁣
I stayed for the battle. But that’s not the only way. If you need to leave that’s okay too. Either way. You have to get to that light. ⁣
⁣
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Go to a meeting yourself. Grab a book (Co-Dependent No More, was helpful for me) listen to a podcast. Get yourself a village. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF⁣
