What Is Strobing?

Half of you will sit here and praise baby jesus that you finally have a post telling you how to ‘strobe your face’ and the other half are going to be like, duh. How does one strobe their face? WTF is strobing?… you ask. Well so did I. So let’s take a few minutes to talk about the elephant in the beauty land room. Strobing. Birchbox calls it, “the new, all-natural contouring”, a less intense (and less time-intensive) way to highlight your face… PopSugar calls it, “the brilliant new face-sculpting hack for lazy girls”. You know what Ange calls it? HIGHLIGHTING. It’s as simple as that. It’s highlighting your face without the contour. Strobing focuses solely on highlighter, and you’re skipping the chiseled out contour of the past, applying your “strobing” products where the light would naturally hit your face.

Find your self wondering "WTF is strobing?", find out how to rock the newest trend in beauty!

Just putting some shiny emphasis on the parts of your face you want to shine like the top of the chrysler building. So if you just learned how to contour, I’m sorry but here is another new (read: old) thing for you to add to your list. But whatever. What do I know. Someone somewhere decided to give it a new name (read: old name, MAC did this in the 90s) and here we are. My inbox and Pinterest are full of people asking me WTF is strobing, so instead of sticking to my #stoptryingtomakestrobehappen happy place (I still won’t say or use the word fleek), I figured what the hell. Give the people what they want. But let me just tell you, it’s highlighters, you want the highlighters so you can strobe your face. Or highlight it like us non rebels will continue to call it. Because it’s the same damn thing.  And I guess for what it’s worth, a whole post dedicated to strobing or highlighting is fun, because it’s way less time consuming then painting a contour on your face and blending for days. And I LOVE me some highlighters and illuminators.  This allows you have a nice dewy glow. But make sure it’s natural, don’t get carried away, friends. Like I said above, apply it to the places the light will naturally hit your face (so, your cheekbones, brow bones, inner corner of your eyes, the center of your forehead, down your nose, and on your cupids bow.) So now that you know what strobing is and how to do it, let’s chat what products to use. Here are my favorites!

The best strobing products for pale skin! What is strobing? Strobing focuses solely on highlighter, and you're skipping the chiseled out contour of the past!

ELF BAKED HIGHLIGHTER  ||  MAC STROBE CREAM (thanks to Phyrra for this rec!)  ||  BENEFIT HIGH BROW ELF SHIMMER PALETTE  ||  NARS ALBATROSS  ||  GLOW TOP SHOP  ||  ELF SHIMMERING FACIAL WHIP LOREAL MAGIC LUMI  ||  NO 7 INTENSE RADIANCE  ||  DREAM LUMI  ||  MAGIC LUMI  ||  WHAT’S UP  ||  NYX BORN TO GLOW

So let me know, will you be calling it STROBING or HIGHLIGHTING?

I feel like I’m back in disco times with all this strobing. We need to all watch Saturday Night Fever again and gather our strobing products around us.
But it’s so much easier for me to strobe than to contour

I’m mediocre at best when applying shadow & eye liner for everyday wear. I have been meaning to give strobing a try, so thanks for the product suggestions. Going to experiment with it this weekend

🔟 Creating this community has been one of my favorite things about life. What will you find here?! Easy beauty tips and tutorials, attainable fashion, endless Amazon finds, but also the UNCOMFORTABLE stuff: pap smears, depression, anxiety, the effects my husbands addiction had on our marriage, eating disorders, struggles with fertility, body acceptance, and being comfortable in your own skin. I try to keep it as real as humanly possible. Being so vulnerable all of the time isn’t the easiest thing but if it helps just one person feel less alone, I’m good! ⠀⁣

Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thin Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. ⁣
⁣
We’re about two hit two years since Jim entered rehab and I’m forever proud of the changes he made and the man he has become⁣
⁣
For the person reading this who loves an addict. It’s changed you, I know. It made you a little harder to reach. It made getting out a bed a little rough. It’s isolated you from groups of friends. Your hearts a little more closed off then it once was. Your trust is a little bit broken. You’ve felt more alone then you ever have. You’ve felt judged. You’ve felt betrayed. You’ve felt at fault.⁣
⁣
Whether you’re past it or still in the trenches. I want you to know some things. ⁣
⁣
I need you to know that it’s not your fault. I need you to know that you could not have done anything differently. I need you to know that you can’t cure it. You didn’t cause it. And you can’t control it. ⁣
⁣
Most of all I need you to know that it gets better. I need you to know that it’s ok to feel happiness again. It’s ok to put yourself first. It’s ok to take care of your. ⁣
⁣
And you’re not alone. ⁣
⁣
I promise you that there’s a light on this side of the tunnel just waiting for you to walk through. And that light doesn’t mean it’s over, it’s just there to guide you. Because every day could be a battle. ⁣
⁣
I stayed for the battle. But that’s not the only way. If you need to leave that’s okay too. Either way. You have to get to that light. ⁣
⁣
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Go to a meeting yourself. Grab a book (Co-Dependent No More, was helpful for me) listen to a podcast. Get yourself a village. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF⁣
