5 Things I Do Every Day To Keep My Skin Healthy

January 11, 2019

One of the questions I get asked the most over on Instagram is about skincare in whatever capacity. Whether that’s my current routine, my thoughts on facials, or how I feel about chemical peels. It’s always a topic of conversation. I make no secret of the fact that my actual skincare routine is pretty extensive, it’s one of the places where I tend to put my money and my time when it comes to a beauty routine. Outside of my full current skincare routine, there are other tips and tricks that I do/use on a daily basis that I wanted to share.

5 Things I Do Everyday To Keep My Skin Healthy1. WEAR AN SPF – I can not stress this enough. I don’t care if you’re not leaving your house. Got windows? Put the SPF on. Just running to the store? YOU NEED SPF. I remember my early 20’s and before, the only thing I cared about was being tan. And I’m paying for that now with signs of aging and some sun damage. Get a fake tan, ladies, and gents. Put on your SPF. For real. A few of my faves >>

2. RUN A HUMIDIFIER – I started using humidifiers for my skin last winter and I am so thankful that I did. Cold and dry air completely pulls the moisture from your skin. This can cause all sorts of skin issues, including dullness, dryness, flaking, and aging. And you know we are not trying to age over here SO I researched things I could do to help my skin in the winter. We also have baseboard heat which is SO dry, that’s why I originally started looking. I’m currently using this humidifier in my office, I have it run the entire time I’m in there working. And then I have this mini one on my nightstand that runs while I sleep. My dryness has gotten significantly better, I’m still dry it’s just my skin type, but I don’t have the kind of flaking that I used to. Running the humidifiers allow you to keep your skin a little less messed up.

3. FACIAL MASSAGES – Look, the jury is still out on the science behind facial massages. I don’t care. They feel nice and I’ve noticed immediate results after rolling my face with a rose quartz roller or an ice roller. I have a WTF is facial rolling post if you want to learn more about HOW and WHY I do this. A few of my fave rollers >>

4. DRINK WATER – I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory, Our bodies need water. We could all use a little more hydration in our lives. I for whatever reason struggle with this one the most. But putting in this cute ass bottle isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever done.

5. SILK PILLOWCASE – This is something I just started and it wasn’t even for skincare, it was to help with breakage in my hair. But when I was looking for a pillowcase to help with that, I ended up seeing all the benefits these pillowcases provide for your skin such as: leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth and preventing breakouts. This is the pillowcase I ended up buying!

In 2019, Turkey had nearly 500 RECORDED femicides. ⁣
⁣
The Global Burden of Armed Violence 2014 database shows that between 2007 and 2012, on average, 60,000 women were killed violently around the world. ⁣
⁣
A total of 87,000 women were intentionally killed in 2017. More than half of them (58 per cent) ̶ 50,000 ̶ were killed by intimate partners or family members, meaning that 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day. More than a third (30,000) of the women intentionally killed in 2017 were killed by their current or former intimate partner ̶ someone they would normally expect to trust.⁣

While the majority of homicide victims are men, women are the primary victims of intimate partner homicide, including homicide–suicide events.⁣

Globally, 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence mostly by an intimate partner⁣

#WomenSupportingWomen looks a lot like putting in work to actively combat and also recognize violence against women. It looks like voting for political figures who don’t want to take the rights of women away. It looks like donating to causes that actively fight for these women. ⁣

So let’s #challengeaccepted that. ⁣

I absolutely wouldn’t tell a woman that her thighs were too big. Or that I hated her stretch marks. Or her belly stuck out too far. Or that her arms were fat. ⁣

So why the frick am I ok saying it to myself? Sometimes we all need a little reminder when we look in the mirrror...⁣

🔟 Creating this community has been one of my favorite things about life. What will you find here?! Easy beauty tips and tutorials, attainable fashion, endless Amazon finds, but also the UNCOMFORTABLE stuff: pap smears, depression, anxiety, the effects my husbands addiction had on our marriage, eating disorders, struggles with fertility, body acceptance, and being comfortable in your own skin. I try to keep it as real as humanly possible. Being so vulnerable all of the time isn’t the easiest thing but if it helps just one person feel less alone, I’m good! ⠀⁣
⁣
🌟 I’m so glad you’re here! I’d love to hear a fun fact about you!! 🌟 ⁣

Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thin Loving an addict is one of if not the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. ⁣
⁣
We’re about two hit two years since Jim entered rehab and I’m forever proud of the changes he made and the man he has become⁣
⁣
For the person reading this who loves an addict. It’s changed you, I know. It made you a little harder to reach. It made getting out a bed a little rough. It’s isolated you from groups of friends. Your hearts a little more closed off then it once was. Your trust is a little bit broken. You’ve felt more alone then you ever have. You’ve felt judged. You’ve felt betrayed. You’ve felt at fault.⁣
⁣
Whether you’re past it or still in the trenches. I want you to know some things. ⁣
⁣
I need you to know that it’s not your fault. I need you to know that you could not have done anything differently. I need you to know that you can’t cure it. You didn’t cause it. And you can’t control it. ⁣
⁣
Most of all I need you to know that it gets better. I need you to know that it’s ok to feel happiness again. It’s ok to put yourself first. It’s ok to take care of your. ⁣
⁣
And you’re not alone. ⁣
⁣
I promise you that there’s a light on this side of the tunnel just waiting for you to walk through. And that light doesn’t mean it’s over, it’s just there to guide you. Because every day could be a battle. ⁣
⁣
I stayed for the battle. But that’s not the only way. If you need to leave that’s okay too. Either way. You have to get to that light. ⁣
⁣
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Go to a meeting yourself. Grab a book (Co-Dependent No More, was helpful for me) listen to a podcast. Get yourself a village. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF⁣
