During the winter months, I start to think about my skin a little differently. The cold, dry air wreaks havoc on my sensitive dry skin. As someone who has super dry skin, I know that I need to treat it differently in the Winter especially because my skin gets extra dry and flares up. My redness is at its worst in the heart of Winter as well. So I definitely focus more on healing my skin then I do on just covering up the issues I’m having. I wanted to share a couple of things I do during the colder months to help my skin out.
HUMIDIFIER: Our apartment has electric baseboard heat and it makes the air super dry which in turn makes my skin dry and can even cause it to crack. I keep a humidifier plugged in and running in our living room, office, and bedroom to help restore moisture back into the air.
NO HOT SHOWERS: You might think that a 30-minute hot bath or shower sounds fabulous after walking back from the subway in the frigid cold, but it’s not. It’s actually drying out your skin. Keep your shower or baths to less than 15 minutes and use lukewarm water.
MOISTURIZE: In the winter months I tend to reach for thicker moisturizers. A heavier night cream can really help to allow your skin to hydrate as your sleep and retain that moisture.
FACIALS: I up my facial schedule during the winter months and might do two a month verse my regular one a month. This allows me to have someone else get a look at my skin and really target skincare towards my specific needs.
HEAL INSTEAD OF CONCEAL: If you know me, you know I’ve been reaching for lighter base products instead of full coverage foundations. In order to do that I really want to make sure that I’m taking care of my redness. I’ve been using Prosacea® daily to calm and soothe my dry, reddened, irritated skin. Prosacea can be used alone, under moisturizer, or under makeup to help treat and heal your redness.
If you follow me on Instagram you know that last year I gave Prosacea a shot and I was super impressed with my results. I saw visible results in just a few days. I was so excited to finally be able to offer you guys an affordable product for redness. Once I had finished it up I spent a few months trying out other products for redness and sensitive skin, since that’s part of my job and I’m always testing something new. But the truth is nothing really worked. Prosacea Medicated Gel reduces rosacea symptoms, including facial redness, pimples, and irritation.
One of my Instagram followers actually brought Prosacea back up to me and put it back on my radar. I instantly drove to my local CVS and grabbed it. And again, I was impressed when I could see results in just a matter of days. It helped the overall appearance of my skin but also calmed my redness. That’s always a win. Prosacea is unique compared to many other over-the-counter options as it actually helps heal the symptoms of rosacea versus just covering the symptoms through tints and concealers.
