I may edit for brightness or exposure in some scenarios but never my face⁣

Beauty in this space can sometimes feel out of reach or like you’re not doing something right when your favorite influencer looks smooth and perfect. And I don’t want to add to those insecurities⁣

If I get botox, you’ll know. Lash extensions? You’ll watch. Filler? We will talk about it. I’m not here to say any of this is wrong. I’m just here to be transparent. Realistic expectations⁣

One of the things I do when life feels out of control is search for something I can control... ⁣

That usually manifests itself in my hair colors but thanks to little ol’ Covid my roots are about 3 inches thick and my ends are void of color 🤷🏼‍♀️⁣

So on my birthday when I was feeling lower then I have in a pretty long time Jim looked at me and said “Let’s go buy plants!” and I jumped up. ⁣

So here we are... people who garden. We haven’t used this patio in the 3 ish years we’ve lived in this building and it felt good to have something to build and grow.. it gave me hope again. ⁣

I dunno if any of this makes sense but it’s where I’m at 🤣 I know you signed up for makeup tutorials and product recs but I hope you don’t mind the sprinkle of life 🖤

I keep seeing posts in influencer centered Facebook groups along the line of “How are you navigating this?” with a lot of replies that vary from tangible ways to use your voice all the way to “I’m not addressing it. I’m an escape for people.” or “I don’t do politics on my business pages” or “I’m vocal IRL but I leave my business out of it” ⁣

IT IS NOT ENOUGH. Let me say this again: SILENCE IS VIOLENCE. ⁣

I appreciate that people “need a break” but POC don’t get to take a break. You might be paying with a few irrational followers who unfollow and announce their departure to you like it’s the airport. So you’re uncomfortable for five minutes. Black men and women are paying with their lives. ⁣

This is not a POC problem. This is unequivocally a white person problem. WE have to fix it. WE have to stand up and say we’re done with this. WE HAVE TO DO THE WORK. ⁣

LISTEN. ⁣
⁣
LEARN. ⁣
⁣
Support black businesses. ⁣
⁣
Share black creators. ⁣
⁣
Make donations to organizations actively helping the cause. ⁣
⁣
Educate yourself.⁣

Do the work.⁣

Let it be known in your words and your actions that you will not stand for this. ⁣
